Back in the late 1930s, Tolkien, C S Lewis and other writers used to gather in the Eagle & Child pub in Oxford, in a group called the Inklings. They met in a private room called the Rabbit room to discuss various material including their unfinished manuscripts.
Roll forward a century and the other side of the world… and we’ve found our own (near) private room in the Strawberry Hills Hotel in Sydney. The Devonshire room might lack a fireplace and antique wood panelling, but it’s a great location for writers to gather, eat, drink and discuss writing and publishing in the 21st century.
So in addition to our monthly SelfPubAus lunches, we’re starting a fortnightly writing group on Fridays, 12-2pm. There’s a great lunch menu, or people can just have a drink or snack.
Do bring a sample of your work to read out if you have something you would like (constructive) feedback and critique on: anything from novel excerpts and short stories to poems and non-fiction writing is welcome. We have memoirists, crime thriller authors, poets, romance writers, historians and business writers – it’s an enjoyably mixed bunch!
Date: Friday 17 June 2022
Time: 12-2pm
Location: Devonshire Room, Strawberry Hills Hotel, Sydney (near Central Station)
If you’d like to come, do sign up on MeetUp at this link so we have an idea of possible attendee numbers.
