So what does self-publishing involve? Here’s a handy checklist:

1. Write your book
2. Edit your book
3. Format your book
4. Design a cover
5. Choose a publishing platform (eBook and/or printed book)
6. [Optional*] Get an ISBN
7. [Optional**] Promote your book

* You may not need an ISBN, depending where and how you plan to publish. Some sites offer them for free.

** Obviously if you want to sell copies, you’ll need to market and promote your book. But if you simply want too see your work in print, or as an eBook to give to friends and family, then you needn’t worry about promotion.
