Friendly Chat Over a Coffee

Days…

Days galloping one after another, leaving no footprints. I look through the glass window, not only seeing the life beyond, but also catching a glimpse of my own reflection over the years. The grey hair I try to forget, and the wrinkles around my eyes that deepen whenever I smile, as if they are a ledger of the moments of joy.

I have studied many realms, fields, and people, and have read many books.

I have travelled to many cities, not for photos on my social media, but to observe, with many questions.

And I have been a seeker, a wanderer, and I have cried for other men’s pains more than for my own self-pity.

I discovered my defiant vanity at an early age, and I sat with it eye to eye until it grew tired and fled.

I explained the importance of a teacher, not as a person who guides you to find the answers, but as a mentor who directs you towards your own original question, and the role of the true philosopher or scientist, not as a man with many trophies or patents of ownership, but as a transparent glass who sees the answer to the questions and allows others to see them as well, unbent and clear, without any smudge or divergence.

I wrote about the levels of existence, light and vibration, consciousness, immortality, and then about the moment I SAW the beginning. The moment of the first doubt was the moment of awareness. Awareness didn’t come with pride or self-observance or with questions, but with a doubt.

I sat back and sighed, God, why?

Why were the children of Minab sacrificed? Why did the atomic bombs erase hundreds of thousands of people in a flash of a second?

Why must I witness all these cruelties, as if I am the only one who sees, as if I know that if I sent this to my friends, they would say, devastatingly or even angrily, “He started again.”

Why does a man become a trained killer, and even receive a medal for killing another man?

Why do two men, without even knowing each other, step into the ring and beat each other half to death as if one had slept with the other’s mother, and millions cheer for them and call it a sport?

Why does man create all these germs under the name of science, release them to profit from others’ miseries, and even award each other honorary titles and medals for being heroes?

I have a bottomless list of questions, and the reason I am writing them here is not to bore you, but because I think I have the answer.

But before I give you an answer, I think I owe an apology to all those motherfuckers, including the politicians, journalists, well-paid, high-stakes liars, fake scientists, Nobel Prize winners, superficial artists, even those bystanders following the trends in the media, social media, fashion, and so on, whom I criticised before, as I didn’t understand their importance. But the answer made me see why they are worth the space. As I said before, ‘It matters, if it exists’.

I asked: why, God? Why did you bother to grant us awareness?

Now I know that moment of doubt was the birth of awareness. Consciousness must develop through lived experience. Although life provides for everyone, not everyone appreciates the phenomenal. While everyone was running away when the earthquake struck Granada, I was left tongue-tied by the roar of the earth, as if it were trying to tell us something. But who was there to listen?

There are an unlimited number of games created by other men, some to entertain, some to abuse, some to pocket easy profits, and many faceless people play along, mostly without asking questions. A few throw out some random words out of boredom or frustration, but still play along.

Before, I grew sad when my friends used so-called ‘artificial intelligence’ to create art and poetry. I don’t care what strangers do with their lives, but it hurt when it was my friends, and it saddens me further that they never understood the reason for my frustration. This technology is built on plagiarism, stealing the work of others without credit under the guise of ‘the internet’ and hiding behind a hollow, manufactured name ‘artificial intelligence’. But now, I don’t really care. Before, I feared the spread of fake art would ruin humanity’s sense of beauty. Now I know many people simply lack a sense of beauty; they don’t bother to cultivate it. To be clear, we do not share the same vision of life. People come and go, playing brief roles in our lives. Many play a role in my life much like a grasshopper I once rescued from drowning in an isolated swimming pool in Tenerife, an encounter that helped me truly SEE. As I have written before: ‘Seeing is not seeing without SEEing.’

We are surrogate mothers of consciousness. Most of us never have the opportunity to nurture it, only to pass it along to another.
Cruelty, pain, and violence are as essential as an authentic zapateado in flamenco or Mendelssohn’s violin concerto.

Yet no violinist who plays Mendelssohn is Mendelssohn, nor is every dancer a Farruco.
Nor is any hermit a Buddha, nor any saint a Jesus, nor any seeker a Rumi, nor any lover a Mary Magdalene.

And yet, the life of a man, as I have written many times, is not about fears, but about discovering the limits, pushing through the boundaries, and expanding the horizon, not inflating like a balloon, but solidly shifting the walls without ruining the roof. Though for some, only a handful since the birth of mankind, no walls were required, nor a roof.

Hearing about something is not Knowing, as hearing about light is not Seeing.

Furthermore, I see we are all wandering in a garden of life, abundant with gifts. Many can’t SEE, because Seeing needs room, and most of us are hoarders. We must create space for these gifts. If the mind is consumed by worries and the heart is crowded with desire, fulfilled or abandoned, the moment of Knowing will never come. I once wrote of hope and desire as seductive sisters who steal reality from our lives, and to that I now add a complementary truth: hope concerns itself with the unknown, whereas life is entirely full of the known.

So, dear rootless days, I just want to tell you: I am not afraid of this bareback horse ride. I am not scared even if you fly. I will fly along.

He estudiado muchos reinos, campos y personas, y he leído muchos libros.

No tengo miedo aunque volemos. Volaré contigo.
